The Type 923 is a versatile test vehicle specifically for the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen line. First introduced in 2000, it has a maximum speed of 270 km/h, making it a suitable alternative to the aging 922 model.
This 7-car train resembles the 700 series and features electrical equipment measurement vehicles in cars 1-3 and 6, a track equipment measurement vehicle in car 4, and meeting rooms and tour conductor rooms in other cars. It has a unique body color distinct from other vehicles on the Tokaido Shinkansen, earning it the nickname "Doctor Yellow" due to its yellow exterior with blue stripes.
